Speedy, the turtle

A while ago, I asked my cousin what kind of gift I should give her for a special occasion. She asked for a turtle t-shirt.

Hmmm.... Well I drew a turtle, inspired by the turtles in Finding Nemo, the Pixar company motion picture. Or is it Disney? "Duuuuuuuuude!"

I got high pigmented new Pebeo acrylic paint and used it along with the fabric medium, to saturate the t-shirt fibers before painting.

Also: notice the ironic word Speedy. Yeah, that's right, I am now a comedian!

Kimono 2.0

My friend asked me to make her a kimono.
She buys the fabric and cooks me supper, I sew. Fair trade!

We went and chose blue fabric with black lace. Same design as last time, folks!

A kimono

I have been meaning to make a kimono.
I bought a fantastic blue kimono from the online store 1861 and wanted to recreate it for my mother.
So I did!

I bought:
- 2 yards each of two lycra fabrics
- 7 meters of ornament

Essentially, all you need to do is cut two smaller rectangles that are a third of the bigger (back panel) one.
The all you do it sew them together on the top.
Finally, you make small arm seams under.
I added a flourish embellishment all around the sides of the kimono.
Here are the pictures!
My beautiful mother is modeling it for me!

Lemon Poppy Seed Cake

My dad's bday calls for a delicious cake.
But none of those colourful and insane cakes.

Lemon poppy seed is a versatile moist cake that is great for tea/coffee.
I found a recipe online and *tic tic* 1 hours later TADAAAAaaaaa

The cake is moist, you can taste the lemon and the poppy seeds are crunchy. It's great :)

Want to make this?
Here is how!

Ingredients:
  • 1cup butter, softened
  • 2cups brown sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 6tbsp poppy seeds
  • 2 tbsp grated lemon zest
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup 1% milk

1- Fluff the butter with the sugar. Incorporate an egg at the time.
2- Grate the lemon peel finely
3- In another bowl mix the flour, the poppy seeds, the lemon, the baking powder and the salt.
4- Incorporate the dry mix into the egg mixture, alternating with the milk.

5- Pour into molds and cook at 350 degrees until ready (when you insert a toothpick in the center and it comes out clean)

So while the cake is cooking, you should definitely make the syrup, that will go on top of the cake. It will add lemon and moisture to the cake.
Here is how:

1- Mix 1 cup of sugar, 1 cup of lemon juice and 3 tbsp of grated lemon peel in a pan.
2- Cook until sugar is disolved.
3- When cakes are ready, pierce the cake periodically with a fork and pour the syrup on top.

Recipe yield: 3 cakes

Enjoy!

Cookie Sandwiches: The Magical World of Sprinkles

Who likes cake mix? No one. Cake mix sucks. It's boring. And spongy and dry.
Of course, yeah, you can modify the recipe and stuff....
But it boils down to the same thing: You make a cake. It can be square, it can be round or rolled up. It's still a cake :D

I wanted to experiment in making cookies with cake mix.
So I made these cookie sandwiches, from the recipe I found on the website "The Joy of Comfort Food"

Recipe:
- 1 box cake mix
- 1/2 cup shortening (or butter)
- 1 egg

Protocol:
1- Mix
2- Roll into balls and flatten on a cookie sheet.
3- Pop in the oven (350 degrees) until ready.
4- Let cool
5- Assemble

Now for the assembly;

I decided to use up a pack of Cream Cheese I had in my fridge. To add taste, I added 2-3 tablespoons of Raspberry Jam.

No sugar, there is enough sugar in the jam :)

Then all you need to do is find two cookies of roughly the same size:

And then you dunk in sprinkles. Cause sprinkles are the best!

Aaaaaaand finished :D

Here is a bonus artsy shot of the food. Cause obviously I'm such a fantastic photographer (NOT!).

Lord of the Rings Converse Shoes

So my brother decided he too would like some customised Converse shoes.
It is really becoming my speciality, you know.
I used the same things as usual.
First coat of paint: Fabric Medium and acrylic paint.
Other layers: paint again.
Some details: black Sharpie marker.

Enjoy.

Oh the theme: Lord of the Rings.

I do not own the rights to anything done on the shoes, most of it is a reproduction.

Dr Who / BBC's Sherlock Converse crossover

Hiya folks
Been REAL busy with school and work so didn't have time to make something cool.
But then my little cousin wanted sneakers and I couldn't refuse!

So here it is.
One shoe is inspired by BBC's Sherlock and the other by Doctor Who
I'm very happy I got to try the "galaxy" effect with the Doctor Who shoe, I'm happy how it turned out.

The Sherlock shoe: on side is the London skyline and well... Sherlock. The other side is blood and 221B (baker street). Under the laces is the print on the wall at Sherlock's pad.
Took me about 5 hours.
